  • Downloaded ISO file and extracted its content, resulting in a rhel8.iso file.
  • Obtained VMWare Workstation Player and created a VM using the rhel8.iso file.
  • Allocated resources to the VM: 80 GB SSD Disk, 4 Processor Cores, and 8 GB RAM.
  • VM starts in VMWare Workstation Player, but there is no visibility of control or node# VMs within Virtual Machine Manager.
  • I noticed that the disks are stored in the /opt/ex294/disks directory, suggesting a potential issue preventing the launch of guest VMs.
  • Followed instructions to open the menu at Applications -> EX294 -> Select VM, which resulted in an error message: "Failed to connect: No running virtual machine found."
  • Running the vmctl view all command also throws an error: "Failed to get domain 'control', Domain not found, no domain with matching name 'control,' and the same error repeats for each node.

Any ideas? I have recreated VM three times now and experiencing same issue

Resolved above by following:

  • Host OS --> RHEL 9.
  • Uninstalled VMWare Workstation Player.
  • Installed VMWare Workstation 17 Pro, though it's believed that this step may not be necessary, as the solution should work with VMWare Workstation Player as well.
  • Created a VM using the previously mentioned process.
  • After shutting down the VM, opened VM settings.
  • Navigated to the "Processors" section and checked the option to "Virtualize Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI." (This option couldn't be selected during the initial VM creation process.)
