For those interested using hacked version of CML 2.5, it is actually possible to patch the CML 2.5 to CML 2.72 by replacing the files in CML 2.5 with the python scripts and web GUI files from 2.72 to your VM.  Why would I want to do that ? Well, all the new fancy features including the support for the new Cat9Kv image. New IOL etc..

Not going to write a dummy's guide for what I spend a couple of days working on. There are multiple files and scripts, etc involved, too many. Spin up a pair of CML 2.5 and CML 2.7 . Start by moving the extra files from 2.7 across using winscp or whatever other file transfer program you prefer. Snapshot frequently.  Compare the GUI and work backward from there.  Licensing is only checked during core and low-level services starts up,

Some hints to get you along.

1. Try to import a "unsupported" node defination file, you will get error messages that hint to you what files are missing.
2. Compare the GUI side by side and you will be able to see

3. Turn on "view hidden files" if you have the options in the file browsers.

what all folders need to be updated? I see simple_core simple_ui simple_driver etc. Not sure what all to change in a safe way without messing up licensing

I didn't keep track of the files and I have to redo everything if I want to document the entire process, it started off as a fun thing to do. Since I have legit license for 2.7, I'm not sure if this is something I want to continue.

Why use CML? What are the advantages compared to eve-ng? Is there a specific reason why you should use it?

Clustering, better performance, more statble.

I'm quite new to this world of CML. If anyone has a video that explains how to crack it step by step, I would really appreciate it.

Anyway, thanks in advance.

I would say to everyone who wants crack .. Please ! trying to use eve-ng community version is the best and every time you will get update for some bugs. Do not waste your time to unnecessary things. If you get CML crack, u can't even try more than 50 routers and switches on lab. eve-ng CE version still enough to use CCIE, CCDE and the other high-end devices. CML is just simulator not knowledge. Let me ask question to you, what's the L3DL ? if you don't know , I would suggest to focus on study. if you know, u don't need CML. I wish you guys think high, aim big and get knowledge.

Do you know "ABCD", if you don't know ABCD, you don't have time for CML, go study, if you know ABCD, you don't need CML, so go study. As we would say, "Talk Cock like Sing Song".  😄

Well, looks like this is no longer necessary.  CML 2.8 is now out, and with that, you have a "Free Tier". However, "Free Tier" requires Telemetry to be enabled AND is limited to 5 (Cisco) nodes. Sooo, simple solution (tested) is (1) boot to ubuntu , (2) disable the check for Cisco Telemetry (i.e. call home to cisco) and (3) increase your nodes limits but even without the nodes hack,  5 Cisco nodes is sufficient for many simple CCNA level practices. E.g. 1 fmc+1 ftdv = 2 nodes, add a few more linux VM, etc, and you will still have 3 more nodes avialable. 😄

Hi AncientOne,

Thanks Matey,

You name it Sir its CML 2.8 out and I love to get more nodes than 5.

Let me try to get this right. 1-Boot to ubuntu and disable the check for Cisco telementry ie. call home to cisco . This all needs to be done via ubuntu and not CML GUI or something. If you dont mind sharing ubuntu commands to stop telemetry (Call home to cisco) and then maybe a line or two on how to increase nodes limits will make my day 🙂

I been waiting for your message day and night 🙂 until i saw your message and I am loving it Mate

Waiting for your message 😉

This dude does not provide any guides. Do not waste time feeding his ego. Crack CML 2.7 and use CML 2.8 images.

You meant you want something for free from a stranger who spend a couple of hours exploring , and that giving general directions and steps is insufficient ? Try using your brain.... 😄

Those whose rude gets ZERO, the tips/guides are for those interested in exploring and those who shared their resources with me gets my resources.  Yes, stick to 2.72 (hacked, which you didn't contribute to), that's sufficient and I don't even see a need to use CML 2.8 images either since one could have easily upload any images into CML (don't tell me you didn't know that !!), and I've been using FMC, FTD and other images in CML for ages. I'm currently using and cracking CML 2.8 because I can....

Yes, of course you need a LiveCD . Explore the python script directory on dm-1, you need to flip the python script logic to prevent it from forcing the Telemetry.  *Hint*  there are hidden folders.
